The debate isn't over. REST is still the workhorse of the web, but GraphQL has matured significantly.

When to use GraphQL

If you have a complex frontend with deeply nested data requirements (like a social network or dashboard), GraphQL eliminates over-fetching and under-fetching.

When to stick with REST

For public APIs, simple CRUD apps, or microservices communication, REST (and gRPC) is often simpler and cacheable at the HTTP level.

The Hybrid Approach
